Friday Music Day: Harry Connick Jr. + Thanksgiving + Weird

Between the weirdness that is my family, the news that we will not be getting the house we bid on, add a few ibuprofen chased with a beer. Yes kids, this Thanksgiving is officially in the books.

Two things. Get the new Kanye. And watch this.

Bad News + Lottery + I did not win

I only play when the prize is "never work again money"... Luckily, no one won this week, so it is now at $96M/about $68M cash. I guess it would be better to win on Tuesday, so I can consult the lawyer without paying weekend fees.

Oh, and I feel dirty when I buy lottery tickets. That Colt-45-2-pack-a-Lucky's kind of dirty.

Stevens Loses Alaska Senate Race + Suck it!!!

The Democrats now have 58 in the Senate. There are now 2 races left to determine the 60 seat majority. According to reports, Bill Clinton is headed to Georgia to help Martin oust Chambliss. And 215 votes separate Coleman and Franken in Minnesota.

Fingers-crossed. A majority could really help health care reform.

Basquiat + Boxer + $13.5 Million

Jean-Michel Basquiat's "Untitled (Boxer)" went for $13.5 M at a Christie's auction yesterday. Higher than originally anticipated.

Former owner of this piece, anyone? Anyone?

Secretary of State + Debate

Personally, I think we need her in the senate to get work done on health care, but this is a move I discussed way back in July when all the Vice talk was a buzz. I think it is smart, but I also don't think we can mine the senate too much.

Also, remember this is all speculation right now. The Obama camp is notoriously air tight. Journalists are chomping for stories... a lot of the reports have not been accurate.

Anyhow, thoughts?

Please be true

According to various reports, President-Elect Obama and his team are planning to shut down the Military Prison at Guantanamo Bay. The plan will bring the prisoners to high-security U.S. facilities and re-boot the trial process.

A small step to restore some humanity to this country, and close this "sad chapter in American history."

Grunge + Making a Comeback

I am serious. And I am lucky — all my clothes are ripe. There will be some differences from it's first official spin. I am hoping for less heroin and cigarettes.

Don't believe me? Peep the chart I made.

For Brother Snake + Stay Safe

House + Hunt

Well, this is becoming an opus. Though I guess it should be.

The house hunt has been fairly constant and with little reward. I hate to rely on the financial crisis, but damn, we need things to adjust round here. Half a million to live in a small home that has running water and a good roof? Really? Really. No, really. Good schools and appliances? Brother, please!

I know this is hitting many areas of the country hard, but not inside the beltway. Being firmly middle class is not enough here.

Blah Blah Blah. Don't believe me. Peep this listing. I bet the inside is sweet.

Reality.

Ed Shaughnessy v. Buddy Rich

Nice Day +++ Yeah!

We can't forget that the hopes and aspirations of a nation are not one mans responsibility, but that of the collective. We have made managing them his charge. For 21 months I have believed Barack Obama is the transformational figure we have needed. And now, more than ever, I believe that we can take the steps toward righting so many wrongs.

Domestically and internationally. It will not be overnight, the mess is eight years and more in the making. You can argue in many respects that it has run as the subtext of our nation since we declared independence 232 years ago. I am just going to enjoy the next couple days while I can... then back to the good fight. It is our responsibility as citizens... as a nation.

I think that this election demonstrates to the world that we can live up to our ideals, instead of just preaching them. Instead of enforcing them with an arrogance and infliction of injustice that undermines our constitutional obligations. Our obligations to our neighbors, even our friends. This is our moment to re-engage ourselves and our duties as Americans to one another and to our brothers and sisters around the world.

There is a long row to hoe ahead. I can't help but feel optimistic. Like the sentimentality expressed in the famous Reagan ad, "It's morning in America." And I believe a dawn of a new day.
